So where do you start when you are talking about an artist of the calibre and longevity of Eon (aka Ian Loveday)? Well, you could start by saying that his early hits, such as 'Spice', 'Basket case', 'What is music?' were massive anthems, not only for us here at Kracktronik central, but also to just about anyone into dance music in the 90s, with crossover appeal to hardcore ravers, house-heads, breaks buffs, and techno freaks. More recently, his work with Peter 'Baby' Ford has been picked up by DJs across the board, including Richie Hawtin (who included 'Dead Eye' on his infamous 'Decks, EFX + 909' release and 'Transitions' CD/DVD). But this is not the time to bask in past glories (many as they are), but rather to look to the three awesome productions he has pulled out of the bag for Kracktronik's 13th release (unlucky for some, but evidently not for us!). Previously available as part of his download only 'DeVice' album, but here re-edited and remastered specifically for the vinyl release, these are three prime cuts with Eon's distinctive production style stamped all over them. 'Texas flex' is what you might imagine 'White Lines' would sound like if it was written in the future by a smiley-faced robot , with twisting acid bass throbs and a crisp floor-slaying groove. Cut good and loud at 45rpm for a truly mind-bending experience! 'Non doctor' and 'I live!' keep up the pressure on the flip side with swooping delays and eerie strings being the order of the day, alongside Eons' trademark tough electro breaks. A welcome vinyl return for Mr Loveday, and a killer start to 2007 for Kracktronik, promising a year with much to offer?
Jeff Mills Album, Every Dog Has its Day. It is a mixture of deep electronica sounds fusioned with his hi tek techno beats n grooves.
LEKAN BABALOLA returns with his second release on 51 LEX with remixes from IG CULTURE and LE PICO.
Regarded by many as one of the great new talents of UK techno, and certainly demonstrating a healthy degree of originality, Lief Ryan is a welcome addition to the Iron Oxide roster. Although he undoubtedly has one foot in the camp of wonk, there is also a refreshing directness that makes this 4-tracker a killer choice for tougher clubs. Influences drawn from breaks and grime production give the bottom end a satisfying weight and throb, while elements of the programming certainly owe a debt to ?classic? techno and wonky producers such as Neil Landstrumm. Maybe it is his location in Manchester that gives his productions the edge that they have, certainly they sound a lot more street-wise and less self-conscious than many of his more Southern contemporaries. Whatever, this is a strong four track ep that is sure to gain him more attention in an increasingly jaded techno scene.
Likwid Biskit. Likwid Biskit's Kaidi Tatham and IG Culture show love to one of their all time musical influences Herbie Hancock. The Likwid Biskit crew freak this tune to extreme outer limit proportions with Kaidi's Moog and Synth wizardry enough to dissolve the strongest metals and I.G's sledge hammer beats ready to shake any carburetta loose. On the B-side we are blessed with the presence of bass legend Pino Palladino (D'Angelo, Roy Hargrove, Rolling Stones, The Who and many more...) who flexes his bass bicep in fine style.
Ben Sims has carefully crafted a unique sound for Ingoma over the last few years with tracks having a distinctly tribal feel as well as being rich in funk and melody. Paul Mac has been a large contributor to Ingoma over then years with many high quality tracks. This sampler is one of the tracks from the forthcoming Paul Mac album to be released in February 2006 and is a great example of how his sound has imrpoved and matured incredibly over the last 18 months. This single is a rich Detroit ifluenced melodic killer with a saturation of strings and stabs as well as a killer funky bass line. On the flip there are 2 Dark Science remixes which are both stripped down - one being more minimal and one more acidic... This is a great package
High quality jazzy Detroit flavoured tracks. Azid Jazz is as it sounds, acidic and jazzy, with a squelchy bass line, and jazzy hooks bubbling in and out of the mix. Lifecycle the first track on the B side starts off with stripped down beats and then drops into lush pads and percussive melodies before the beats kick back in. Motionvibe continues in the same vein as the previous two tracks, with intricate drum programming and layers of sweet melodies and effects over a tough bass line.
Spacebar Sentiments slaps-down the 2nd release of the new "Spacebar Superstars" series with four of the most monolithic, and undeniably deadly tracks the label has released to date, and judging from their history so far, that is indeed saying a lot!! Brand new artist to the Spacebar roster "Skeetaz", aka Bil Bless (SOTEG/The Disciple Grin/Bless Records) and James Watts (KiloWatts) gives two of the most freakishly psychedelic, gutteral, and maddening electronic dance tunes that Spacebar has released. Blending electro, psy, glitch, dubstep and breakbeat, "Skeeters" and "One Twenty" are both going to find permanent homes in dj crates across the galaxy. The flip-side to this bold release features "c.mantle" , who lands two tracks of distorted, intricate, heavy, and epic electrostep weirdness, juxtaposed around rapid-fire, precision drum programming, helping to possibly make this the Spacebar camp's heaviest offering from the catalog. Both of these new artists on "Spacebar Superstars Vol.2" have delivered mind-bending material that is going to smoke the dirtiest, up-for-it dancefloors with the kind of sludgy, tilted and freaked-out future-electro we all crave.
Restock of this excellent deep tech house release from Souichiro Masutomi. Abstract electronica grooves fused with tuff crisp n crunchy beats.
Tuff minimal funky techno from DJ Surgeon.
DJ Surgeon presents Screw The Roses, four tracks of banging abstract techno and electronica beats and sounds.
