Following the success of the masterfully selected series of 4 volumes - ?Over The Counter Culture? - this one off special features four remixes of the 80's pop classic ?Fame' and was inspired by the much sought after 'Wee killed him EP' by The wee djs , released in 1999 on SCSI AV , which featured it's very own Fame remix. This latest EP is made up of remixes by Silicon Scally (Carl Finlow) , Bass Kittens , Volum and a new updated mix by The wee djs. These four interpretations bring deep nasty basslines and beats to smash dance floors worldwide and show Fame at its darkest. With the A side ranging from Silicon Scally's stylistic sound, which brings a determined and involving electro mix, to The wee djs broken, dark melodic bass filled second version of this classic track. The B side continues the theme with Volum's own solid, floor driven, twisted and glitchy take and finally Bass Kittens brings his cheeky 808 San Francisco breaks sound smashing in to end this EP with a bang.
The long awaited debut from the Brighton duo is here at last and it's a landmark release for Marine Parade. The best yet according to Adam Freeland, and it's hard to disagree. As well as the expected breakbeat tracks there's plenty of surprises in the mix: from hip hop and downtempo to punk and rocking guitars.
Juan Atkins aka Model 500 drops one of his latest offerings on his very own Metroplex label. Groovey twisted basslines and electronica sounds fused with electro static moody vocals........grab one for the collection.
First release on this US electro label run by Bass Kittens' Jon Drukman and Volsoc's Justin Maxwell. The focus of the label is on advanced programming technologies, and whilst this is evident in the productions, Jon has avoided the pitfall of getting lost in the technology. In other words, the tracks dig a groove, glittering with the sparkle of high digital technology whilst simultaneously emanating warmth. The a-side cuts are more in the word-up electro vein, whilst the flip balances out with more breakbeat orientated beats and sounds.
Regarded by many as one of the great new talents of UK techno, and certainly demonstrating a healthy degree of originality, Lief Ryan is a welcome addition to the Iron Oxide roster. Although he undoubtedly has one foot in the camp of wonk, there is also a refreshing directness that makes this 4-tracker a killer choice for tougher clubs. Influences drawn from breaks and grime production give the bottom end a satisfying weight and throb, while elements of the programming certainly owe a debt to ?classic? techno and wonky producers such as Neil Landstrumm. Maybe it is his location in Manchester that gives his productions the edge that they have, certainly they sound a lot more street-wise and less self-conscious than many of his more Southern contemporaries. Whatever, this is a strong four track ep that is sure to gain him more attention in an increasingly jaded techno scene.
After numerous singles on labels such as Penalty, Scsi-AV and Gassoline, it?s now time for the wee djs to bring their unique take on electro to the welcoming arms of Input - Output inc. The Scotsman Dave Paton also works under the aliases of NO and Being and has previously collaborated with artists such as Steve Glencross (on Sativae 020) and Two Lone Swordsmen (on the much sought after Special Emissions 010). This six track mini-lp is a collection of wee djs tunes on a harder and more dancefloor orientated tip, but you still get that special sound and feeling of the wee! This is UK electro at its best, from one of the most prolific and inventive producers around...
